Pete's 'Mountain Training' profile

As Mountain & Moorland Ambassador, she has undertaken extensive training to promote and support safe and sustainable visits within the Black Mountains and upland areas. The area is looked after by the Black Mountains Land Use Partnership, a pioneering cross-border collaborative venture between landowners, graziers, regulatory bodies, community groups and local businesses to promote the restoration and sustainable management of the Black Mountains environs. It also aims to improve the wellbeing and economy resilience of those who live and work in this iconic area as well as sustainably enhance the visitor experience. Visiting the area? You can download the free visitor guide code here.

The Star Bunkhouse’s owners Emma & Pete are both holders of the Mountain Leader (ML) award.

We offer guided walks in the Black Mountains* (Eastern Beacons) and the Central and Western Beacons, to guests staying at the bunkhouse. The Brecon Beacons National Park holds a very special place in our hearts, and we love to share our enthusiasm for the landscape, history, geology, flora & fauna, myths & legends and so much more!

We also offer training for any groups planning, for example, a charity trek or expedition, which covers aspects such as packing & kit, movement on different types of terrain, (wild) camping and practice treks.

You can be assured about your comfort and safety at all times: we are highly experienced mountain guides trained in outdoors first aid, and all activities within the remit of our ML qualifications are fully insured. We are also linked to a network of other freelance MLs in Wales, so additional guides may be invited to join us if required.
