Emma and Peter are both holders of the Mountain Leader award, and also offer guided walks in the Black Mountains as well as the Central and Western Beacons.

The Star Bunkhouse is a friendly, family run bunkhouse in the village of Bwlch, a handy base for exploring Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. We are a proud member of the Independent Hostels UK network, and delighted to have been recognised in the ‘Hostel or Bunkhouse of the Year’ category of The Great Outdoors Awards (Silver 2018, finalist 2021 & 2025).

We can sleep up to 20 people in bunkbeds spread over 6 bedrooms. You can book private bedrooms for individuals, couples and small groups, or exclusive use for larger groups. Dogs are welcome by arrangement.
The bunkhouse sits right alongside The Beacons Way long distance footpath, in the gap (bwlch) between the Black Mountains and the central Brecon Beacons, including Pen y Fan. Across the road you will find the New Inn & Beacons Backpackers, popular with both locals and visitors for real ales, a friendly welcome and good food. Advance booking is highly advised for meals.
